Abstract

Frailty is a common condition in older adults, characterized, among other things, by impairments in gait and movement patterns. The proposed FRAILPOL repository addresses the critical gap in geriatric research by offering a comprehensive, open-access, five body-worn inertial sensors (ankles, wrists, and back of sacrum) signals recorded during the Time Up and Go (TUG) test, community-dwelling older adults. The gait data, as well as the stride-based spatio-temporal parameters along with demographic and health-related information, including cognitive health data, have been grouped according to established clinical criteria into three classes (robust, pre-frailty, frailty). The study involved 771 participants. Finally, the FRAILPOL dataset comprises 668 participants, living in the local community and moving independently. Exclusion criteria: stay in a closed facility, inability to move, and terminal diseases with an expected survival time of less than 1 year. The research was registered as Clinical Trial NCT045184231 (https://ichgcp.net/clinical-trials-registry/NCT04518423). The dataset encompasses a range of demographic and health-related information, including cognitive health data (based on Mini-Mental State Examination), Fried’s phenotype test results (based on Fried criteria), and Time Up and Go (TUG) test outcomes for each participant. The assessments were carried out in Poland in 2017 - 2020. A file named participants.xlsx contains the complete demographic and cognitive assessments for all 771 enrolled participants. Files gait_parameters_2_class.csv and gait_parameters_3_class.csv contain spatio-temporal gait parameters for each participant (estimated using Gaitmap library). Additionally, two text files gait_parameters_description.txt and raw_imu_signals_description.txt contain a detailed description of all variables. The IMU_signals subfolder archives raw IMU signal recordings of 668 participants in CSV format. The summary count of files with IMU recordings is 3340. Each participant has five CSV files that correspond to their five raw IMU sensor recordings. Each file follows a structured naming convention ParticipantID-Placement to ensure traceability. In a CSV file, the following columns are:- PacketCounter - following packet number;- Acc_X, Acc_Y, Acc_Z - measurement sensor linear acceleration [m/s^2];- Gyr_X, Gyr_Y, Gyr_Z - measurement sensor angular velocity [deg/s];- Roll, Pitch, Yaw - estimated by sensor software XYZ Euler angles [deg] in the NWU (North-West-Up) Earth-fixed coordinate frame. Kinematics data were recorded using the five wireless Xsens MTw Awinda IMU sensors at a sampling rate of 100[Hz]. The IMU signals were recorded during the 3[m] standardized TUG test. The left ankle and wrists sensors' coordinate system was defined with the X-axis superior (up), the Y-axis anterior (forward), and the Z-axis left. The right wrist and ankle have X-axis superior (up), the Y-axis posterior (backward), and the Z-axis right. The back of the sacrum has the X-axis superior (up), the Y-axis left, and the Z-axis posterior (backward).Cite this article: Szczęsna, A., Amjad, A., Błaszczyszyn, M. et al.
