Quantum Imaging with X-rays
Abstract
Quantum imaging uses entangled or correlated photons to probe objects, often allowing one photon to interact with a sample, while its partner carries image information. Although demonstrated in the visible range, extending this to X-rays has been limited by low photon-pair generation rates and stringent detection requirements. Here, we report record-high rates of correlated X-ray photon pair generation via spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC), achieving ~7,800 pairs/hour. Using these pairs, we performed quantum correlation imaging of various samples, including a biological specimen. We also characterized the spatial, spectral, temporal properties, correct image distortions, thus advancing X-ray quantum imaging capabilities.
