Abstract

Economic and Monetary Union has been a major objective of the European Union, intended to strengthen the financial interaction between member states and to foster the Eurozone economic development. The present paper highlights a comparative analysis of both Eurozone and nonEurozone members, focusing on the fulfillment of the Maastricht criteria. The study has used a mixedmethods approach to examine valuable economic indicators such as GDP, nominal GDP per capita, inflation rate, long-term interest rates, budget deficit and public debt. The methodology was based on data provided by Eurostat, the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank. The comparative method allows us to understand both similarities and differences between the analyzed countries, offering a benchmark framework in the Eurozone accession process. The results highlight that a strong commitment to macroeconomic discipline serve as a powerful catalyst for the Eurozone countries, enhancing the economic convergence and increasing the long-term stability.
