Luned, la cuentera: el arte de contar historias en El fuego verde de Verónica Murguía
Abstract
This article examines Verónica Murguía's novel El fuego verde (1999), which centers on the heroine Luned and her transformation into a storyteller as she learns to read, write, and draw. To develop the character’s story, the author employs medieval marvelous as a fictional framework, whose richness allows her to effectively combine other literary mechanisms. The main objective of this article is to examine the medieval marvelous in relation to Luned’s transformation into a storyteller; the secondary objective is to discuss fantasy from this fictional framework. Through this analysis, it is demonstrated that medieval marvelous is the dominant element of the text, because it determines the plot and the story of the protagonist. Thus, it is argued that this aspect, little considered by critics, is of nodal importance in this novel, the second of the four that the author has published to date (Auliya, El fuego verde, Loba, El cuarto jinete).
