Abstract

This article presents a proposal for an analytical reading of how representations of Mayan women are constructed in the poetic work of Briceida Cuevas Cob. For this purpose, three poems were chosen that refer to three discursive genres and whose themes focus on the experiences, spaces, and objects of Mayan women. The analysis shows the importance of the intersection between gender and ethnicity, which was evident at three textual levels: at the macrostructural level, in the choice of discursive genres; at the linguistic level, through the literary, lexical, and grammatical resources used by the author to construct her poetic voices; and at the content level, in the use of themes, motifs, and meanings centered on the experiences of Mayan women.
