Der Blick zurück als Schritt nach vorn. Archivstudien zur griechischen Schwarzmeerkolonie Olbia am Unterlauf des Bug

The following article discusses the impact of Russia’s war of aggression on the work of a German Ukrainian cooperation project, which had been conducting very successful excavations in the ancient city of Olbia Pontica until early 2022. The suspension of excavation activities caused by the war required a fundamental restructuring of the work programme and led to a significant intensification of archival studies. Thanks to such situation the project remains on track to achieve all key objectives despite the restrictions. At the same time, we have even made some surprising “rediscoveries” of previously forgotten findings from earlier excavations that are relevant to our research.
