Abstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education has become essential in the digital era, as conventional teaching methods are no longer sufficient to meet the learning characteristics of today’s generation. This condition is evident at MIMA Nurul Huda, where instruction remains dominated by one-way lecturing, resulting in reduced student focus, engagement, and intrinsic motivation—particularly in religious subjects that require deep conceptual understanding. While AI offers adaptive, interactive, visual, and personalized learning experiences, its implementation in madrasah settings remains limited due to resource constraints and insufficient digital readiness among educators. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach through documentation, interviews, and case studies to examine the potential and challenges of AI integration in enhancing student learning engagement without compromising Islamic educational values. Data analysis was conducted through reduction, presentation, and triangulation to ensure the validity of findings. The results indicate that AI-based media—such as adaptive platforms, gamification, simulations, and interactive audio-visual tools—significantly improve student focus, motivation, and conceptual comprehension in subjects such as fiqh, akhlak, and Qur’anic studies. AI also allows personalized learning paths based on students’ abilities while providing instant feedback and analytical insights for teachers. However, low digital literacy among educators and limited training opportunities hinder optimal implementation. This research concludes that contextually designed AI integration, grounded in Islamic pedagogy and supported by capacity building for teachers, can enhance learning quality without diminishing the spiritual dimension, ethics, and relational aspects of the teacher–student dynamic.
