Abstract

The objective of this research was to explore the experiences of activists in Nayarit, Mexico, regarding activities in non-formal spaces aimed at raising awareness about sexual diversity. Using a qualitative approach and phenomenological design, five activists aged 25 to 45 participated. Data collection was conducted through a questionnaire with eight open-ended questions. The results highlight the structural challenges (stigma, homophobia, sexism) and personal obstacles (lack of time, internal competition) faced by activists. However, despite social resistance and conservative discourses, they have achieved significant progress in cultural transformation and the visibility of sexual diversity. Their efforts include promoting self-acceptance, respect for sexual identity within Indigenous groups, and addressing sensitive issues such as HIV. The study concludes that non-formal education is essential in LGBTIQ+ activism, as it provides flexible tools to empower the community, reshape social perceptions, and promote equality.
