Estrategias e impactos del cuidado de enfermería centrado en la familia en pediatría: revisión integradora de la evidencia
Abstract
Objective: Examine the family-centered care (FCC) strategies implemented by nursing in pediatric hospital settings and analyze their effects on child outcomes, caregiver experience, and healthcare team processes. Methodology: An integrative literature review was developed following the guidelines of Whittemore and Knafl and the PRISMA 2020 protocol. The search was conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE and Scopus, including studies published between 2022 and 2025 in Spanish and English. 21 studies of different methodological designs (quantitative, qualitative, mixed, and interventions) were selected in pediatric hospital contexts, NICU, and pediatric ICU. The critical evaluation was conducted using the JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis and the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT). The synthesis was conducted narratively with tabular support. Results: The evidence showed that the CCF was consistently associated with improvements in the psychosocial experience of pediatric hospitalization, including greater satisfaction, reduced parental stress, strengthened caregiver role, and better clinical communication. The effects on objective clinical outcomes were reported with less frequency and consistency. The implementation of the FFC was conditioned by organizational factors, care workload, staff training, and the availability of institutional resources. Conclusions: Family-centered care led by nursing constituted an effective model to humanize pediatric care and optimize the experience of children and caregivers. Its direct clinical impact requires further research through longitudinal designs and controlled trials. The structured institutional adoption of the CCF is key to its sustainability.
