Abstract

Conventional engineering science is based on parameters such as h (the symbol for q/ΔT), and E (the symbol for (σ/ε)). q/ΔT and ε/σ are constants if the behavior is proportional. But if the behavior is linear or nonlinear, parameters such as h and E are not constants. They are extraneous variables that make it impossible to separate q and ΔT (or σ and ε), greatly complicating the solution of problems that concern linear or nonlinear behavior. Conversion to the new engineering science requires that parameters such as h be replaced by q/ΔT, that q and ΔT always be separated, and that the law be an analog of q = f{ΔT} which states that the numerical value of q is a function of the numerical value of ΔT (and similarly for E and σ/ε).
