Personalised Prosthodontics
Abstract
This chapter explores the evolving field of personalized prosthodontics, which tailors dental prostheses to the unique anatomical and functional needs of individual patients. It examines the integration of advanced digital technologies, such as 3D scanning, computer-aided design (CAD), and 3D printing, in creating highly customized dental prosthetics. The chapter highlights how these innovations enable precise fitting, enhanced comfort, and improved functionality in prosthetic restorations, from crowns and bridges to dentures and implants. It also discusses the role of material science in the development of biocompatible, durable, and aesthetic materials that mimic natural tooth structures. Furthermore, the chapter addresses the importance of patient-specific considerations, including occlusal patterns, facial aesthetics, and overall health, in the design and fabrication of prostheses. By emphasizing the shift toward personalized care, the chapter outlines the benefits of customized prosthodontics in improving patient satisfaction, enhancing long-term outcomes, and advancing the practice of restorative dentistry.
