This research paper provides a comprehensive exploration of the historical journey of Jatra, an art form whose name originates from the root word "Yatra" (meaning journey or pilgrimage). Beginning with the 15th-century Bhakti movement, it functioned as a medium for the Vaishnavite preaching of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, evolved into a revolutionary political tool during the Swadeshi movement of the British colonial era, and has ultimately transformed into a modern commercial theatre industry with a turnover involving thousands of crores of rupees today. Furthermore, this study analyzes the technical components, stage arrangements, musical instruments, and the philosophical significance of the 'Bibek' (Conscience) character from a sociological perspective.
