Abstract

The relationship between literary characters and the narrative is considered vital. Every action and spoken word of a character carries weight. In Mullaippaattu and Kurinchippaattu, the character of the 'Hero' is excellently designed. Both works offer ample scope to independently analyze the Hero's nature, including his introduction, speech, physical descriptions, and deeds. By internalizing the traditions of Akathinai (the interior landscape of love), the Hero and Heroine are integrated through specific events. Characters construct the sequence of these events; narratives are built by giving the characters a voice and organized through their actions. This article seeks to examine the specific character molds and traits of the Hero as depicted in Mullaippaattu and Kurinchippaattu.
