Overview of Coalbed Methane Mining and Envi-ronmental Impacts
Abstract
Coalbed methane extraction holds significant importance in the energy sector, yet its extraction process and potential environmental impacts cannot be overlooked. This paper reviews the current state of coalbed methane extraction technology and its environmental implications. Through analysis of coalbed methane formation, extraction techniques, resource distribution, and environmental effects, it summarizes the challenges facing coalbed methane extraction today and future development trends. Subsequently, it discusses potential environmental issues arising from CBM extraction, such as increased geological hazard risks and groundwater contamination. To address these concerns, the paper outlines common environmental protection measures and technical approaches, including water resource management and methane emission control. Subsequently, the environmental impacts of coalbed methane extraction are explored in depth, ex-amining both the consistency and discrepancies among different studies. Finally, future research directions are proposed, including improvements in environmental monitoring technologies, refinement of environmental management policies, and the development of novel eco-friendly technologies.
