Abstract

“Excessive tourism”, practiced in recent decades of global freedom and prosperity, accessible to a huge part of the planetʼs population, produces many economic benefits, but entails environmental risks (both natural and anthropogenic). Criticizing the tourism-centered economic development model, many experts warn of the need to secure nature and society from the irreversible damage generated by the tourism activities who ignore environmental legislation. Recently, the idea of environmental protection has strongly penetrated the field of tourism, where there is talk of heritage protection, ecology and sustainability. Promoting environmentalism in the tourism economy can be effectively achieved through the activity of tourist guides.
