Abstract

This study analyses Key Work XI – “Übernichts” (Above Nothing) as an epistemic work of art that does not symbolically represent the origin of space, time and matter, but realises it as an actual transition event. The central thesis is that absolute nothingness within space-time is logically and structurally impossible. Instead, the concept of Übernichts describes a space- and time-less level of mediation with maximum information density. Within the framework of Holistic Information Theory (HIT), Übernichts functions as an intermediate level between dimension 0 (pure possibility) and the manifested space-time dimensions. Dimension 0 is defined as a level of validity without extension, direction or temporal order, in which information exists as possibility prior to energetic, material or spatial realisation. The work emerged not through deliberate artistic intervention, but through a documented natural process of water and drying damage (2001/2002), which transformed the canvas itself into the surface of a real structural event. This process was accepted as an integral part of the work’s genesis, turning the artwork into a record of an information-physical transition rather than a representation. By combining long-term conceptual preparation, physical event and information-logical coherence, Key Work XI formulates a non-dualistic origin model in which information appears as the primary ordering variable. The work anticipates key insights of modern physics, cosmology, quantum information theory and neurobiology, and positions art, for the first time, as empirically connectable research into origins.
