Perfil Clínico Epidemiológico de los Pacientes con Cáncer de Próstata Adscritos a la UMF N° 47 en el Periodo del 2019 a 2023
Abstract
The study aimed to determine the clinical-epidemiological profile of patients with prostate cancer assigned to Family Medicine Unit No. 47 during the 2019–2023 period. It sought to describe their clinical characteristics, associated factors, and diagnostic patterns to generate information that contributes to improving timely detection and management of this disease. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in men worldwide and nationally. In Mexico, it maintains a high incidence, highlighting the importance of early detection as a strategy to intervene in initial stages and improve prognosis. The study used a quantitative approach with an observational, retrospective, cross-sectional, and descriptive design. Records from 159 confirmed patients were reviewed, analyzing sociodemographic, clinical, and diagnostic variables through descriptive statistics. The average age was 75.2 years, with most patients being retired men and having normal weight. Hypertension was the most frequent comorbidity. Prostate-specific antigen was the most commonly used diagnostic study, while urinary urgency was the most common symptom. The results emphasized the need to strengthen screening programs for men over 50 years of age and those with risk factors. They also highlighted the importance of promoting health education, reducing stigma, and encouraging a comprehensive approach that improves prognosis and quality of life.
