Abstract

This essay reflects on the impact and relevance of a multidisciplinary approach to the comprehensive care of people with cerebral palsy, focusing on the experience developed in the "Multidisciplinary Care and Innovative Health for the Community" project at the Azuay Institute of Cerebral Palsy. This initiative integrated knowledge and practices from areas such as physical therapy, speech therapy, nutrition, agronomy, and biomedicine to respond in a coordinated manner to the multiple dimensions of disability. Thirty-eight students and seven faculty members actively participated, providing specialized interventions from their respective disciplines: sensory profile assessment, diagnosis of swallowing and nutritional status, technical advice for the creation of healthy gardens, and the application of adapted technological solutions. It proposes a critical and judicious look at the scope of professional collaboration in highly vulnerable contexts. The collaborative work not only provided more humane and contextualized care for users and their families but also provided a significant learning experience for the participating teams. Based on this experience, we argue for the urgent need to design public policies that strengthen and sustain comprehensive care models, where disciplinary diversity is not an exception, but a rule for health equity.
