Abstract

Integral education constituted a holistic pedagogical model that conceived the student as a multidimensional being. In this approach, learning emerged from the interconnection between the mind, the body, emotions, and the social environment. This paradigm transcended traditional instruction by promoting balanced development in four essential dimensions: cognitive-intellectual, socio-affective, ethical-valoral, and physical-creative. In the contemporary scenario, this model proved fundamental for cultivating critical and systemic thinking that empowered individuals to face global complexity with autonomy and responsibility. The main objective of integral education was to foster a balanced and holistic development of the student, transcending academic instruction. It was oriented toward the construction of an empathic citizenship and the formation of a more just and democratic society, where knowledge acquired a functional sense and the individual prepared to face global challenges. Within this process, the teacher was a dialogic mediator who intervened in the Zone of Proximal Development, guaranteed an environment of emotional security, facilitating the meaningful integration of knowledge. The efficacy of the model depends on the interaction within the mesosystem, which demanded ethical co-responsibility among the school, the family, and the community; integral education was consolidated as the exercise of life itself.
