Abstract

The identification of transition minerals in biological tissues constitutes a diagnostic challenge because traditional methods (ICP-MS, ICP-OES, and atomic absorption) require biological samples and do not allow for real-time vivo evaluation. Objective: The aim was to develop a biophotonic model to infer the direct and indirect identification of transition minerals through multispectral digital capillaroscopy analysis using the ATDM System methodology, and to determine bioreflectance patterns at specific wavelengths along with the structural ionic balance of the tissue. Methodology: A mechanistic and observational study was conducted based on the observation and interpretation of capillaroscopic images from the big data platform of the ATDM System; the images were analyzed with multispectral analysis to identify optical signatures compatible with biological complexes of iron, copper, zinc, calcium, manganese, selenium, and magnesium. Results: A conceptual matrix of Capillary Bioreflectance-Wavelength was developed, establishing spectral parameters for each mineral, allowing for direct identification. An indirect identification model was proposed based on the optical properties of tissues and the interaction of light with metalloproteins and other biological chromophores. Additionally, an in-situ body ionic balance model was included, relating spectral patterns to relative mineral alterations compared to their physiological counterparts. Conclusions: multispectral capillaroscopy emerges as a promising approach for the development of non-invasive optical biomarkers in the homeostatic evaluation of minerals, with potential for early diagnosis and dynamic monitoring in personalized medicine, although validation and standardization of protocols are required.
