Abstract

This article examines the impacts of excessive screen use among Brazilian adolescents, emphasizing the physical, emotional, social, and family consequences associated with this contemporary phenomenon. The study employed a qualitative, exploratory, and documentary approach based on official data, recent scientific literature, and national educational guidelines. Results indicate that most adolescents significantly exceed the recommended daily screen-time limit, presenting sedentary behaviors, concentration difficulties, irritability, and sleep disturbances. Findings also reveal increasing fragmentation within family relationships, marked by reduced face-to-face dialogue and growing digital mediation of emotional bonds. In the educational context, excessive screen exposure affects school engagement and the development of socio-emotional competencies required by the BNCC. A lack of specific public policies directed at digital health further weakens coordinated prevention strategies. The study concludes that the issue demands joint action from families, schools, and government agencies, promoting balanced technology use and reinforcing in-person interaction as an essential foundation for adolescents’ integral development.
