Abstract

Literature, when incorporated into the teaching-learning process, plays a crucial role in the cognitive, emotional, and social development of students. This theoretical framework explores literature as an effective pedagogical tool, capable of enhancing vocabulary, developing critical interpretation, and promoting deep reflection on human values and social issues. Based on the analysis of authors such as Candido (2004), Lajolo (1995), and Freire (1996), the study discusses how literature contributes to the development of empathy, critical awareness, and analytical skills, making it an essential ally in the formation of more conscious and active citizens. Furthermore, it emphasizes the interdisciplinarity of literature, which allows integration with other areas of knowledge, making learning broader and more meaningful.
