Abstract

This study addresses the commercial potential of by-products resulting from the cultivation and processing of passion fruit (Passiflora edulis), a fruit of great nutritional and market relevance, especially in the Brazilian Northern Region. The research problem focuses on identifying the main opportunities for processing and marketing the passion fruit peel flour and seed derivatives to optimize the fruit's integral utilization. The general objective of the work is to analyze the existing literature on the utilization and production of passion fruit by-products, focusing on their nutritional importance and commercial viability. For this purpose, a literature review was conducted using the digital platforms SciELO and Google Scholar, where articles published in Portuguese were consulted, referencing the keywords ‘maracujá’ and ‘subprodutos’. As a result, it was observed that the peel and seeds of the passion fruit represent promising sources for the production of flours, sweets, and jellies, highlighting the nutritional value of the peel flour as a little-known but high-potential market attraction. In conclusion, the exploration and dissemination of the nutritional value and versatility of passion fruit by-products are essential to promote the integral utilization of the fruit, add value to regional cultivation, and contribute to food security.
