Abstract

This study presents an integrative review and an in-depth discussion on workers’ health in emergency care units, focusing on the physical, psychosocial, and environmental hazards identified between 2022 and 2025. The term burnout was deliberately excluded as a central theme to emphasize other relevant occupational issues affecting these professionals, such as work- related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMDs), exposure to biological materials, sleep disturbances, symptoms of anxiety and depression, occupational fatigue, and workplace violence. The article compiles recent scientific evidence, offering a critical analysis of the main challenges faced by emergency and urgent care workers, and proposes intervention strategies and practical recommendations aimed at healthcare managers, practitioners, and policymakers, seeking to promote safer, healthier, and more sustainable working environments.
