Abstract

Special Education is a reality in the school environment; however, it constitutes one of the main challenges for the school. The objective of this work was to conduct quantitative research to understand the challenges faced by ten teachers from a full-time school in the Paraíba Valley, which serves Basic Education classes, as well as to recognize the strategies used to overcome them. The instrument used in the research was a questionnaire, applied via Google Forms, with open and closed questions.Based on the data analysis, it became evident that the most recurring challenges in Special Education involve a lack of continuing education, overcrowded classrooms, a scarcity of teaching resources, a lack of caregivers, insufficient institutional support, among other factors. Conversely, effective strategies highlighted include collaborative work among professionals, the use of diverse teaching resources, valuing learning through the adaptation of activities, individualized attention, and greater family participation to promote the participation of all students in the school context. It is concluded that many challenges exist in Special Education, and overcoming these challenges requires ongoing training, qualified professionals, and collaborative work to effectively strengthen an inclusive culture in the school environment.
