Grammaticalization of Semi-Modal Verbs Gonna, Wanna, and Gotta in Contemporary English
Abstract
The article examines the grammaticalization of the semi-modal verbs gonna, wanna, and gotta in contemporary English.The study analyses the mechanisms of their development from full verbal constructions, their functioning in spoken discourse, and their stylistic peculiarities.The data are taken from COCA and BNC.The findings confirm the dynamic nature of the English grammatical system.
