International Risk Landscape and Related Potential Crises
Abstract
The article discusses the main international documents that identify the key risks of the modern world. The conclusions of the UN and WEF reports focus on different aspects of global danger: the first emphasises the cumulative importance of long-term environmental risks, combining both assessments of their probability and the severity of possible consequences; the second focuses on the most immediate risks (2026), with security and inter-state threats, including military conflicts, climate change and economic confrontation, coming to the fore. Both documents confirm the key role of disinformation, inequality and climate. For the first time in 2026, the WEF names the potentially harmful consequences of the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity threats among the top 10 most significant risks. All of these risks are interrelated and multiply international and global crises.
