Abstract

The mastery and rigorous application of biosafety standards are essential not only to protect one’s own health but also to prevent the spread of infections within healthcare environments and ensure patient safety. The objective was to evaluate the level of mastery of biosafety standards among nursing personnel and the factors that influence their proper application. Documentary research was conducted through a systematic review of articles indexed in scientific databases. Nursing staff are on the front line of healthcare, which continuously exposes them to a variety of biological risks, including pathogens transmitted through blood, body fluids, and aerosols. Despite the existence of protocols and guidelines, studies suggest that adherence to and in-depth understanding of these standards may vary considerably among professionals. It is essential to ensure the adequate availability and quality of personal protective equipment. Healthcare institutions must promote a strong safety culture that prioritizes biosafety through continuous training, support, and constant supervision, recognizing that investment in biosafety is a direct investment in the health and well-being of the entire healthcare environment.
