Abstract

This study examined student-teacher relationship as predictor of Senior Secondary School Students Academic Achievement in Biology in Adamawa State, Nigeria. One objective, one research question, and one hypothesis were formulated, answered, and tested at the 0.05 level of significance, respectively. The study adopted the correlational research design. The population comprised of 35,525 SS III Biology students. 396 students offering Biology were drawn from this population using the multistage sampling technique. Questionnaire and a student’s proforma were used as instruments for data collection. The instrument was validated, and Cronbach’s alpha statistic was used to determine reliability, yielding a coefficient of 0.86. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) to answer the research question, while hypotheses were tested using simple linear regression The analysis of research questions showed that, Senior secondary school students of Biology have high level of study hours with average mean of 3.90 Furthermore, findings from hypotheses tested jointly showed that Student-teacher relationship positively predicts academic achievement of students in biology in Adamawa state (F (1, 394) = 61.37, r = 0.368, p = 0.000 < 0.05). 13.6%. Based on these findings, it was recommended that Teachers should be trained on how to enhance their ability to create positive and supportive relationships, which will make the student feel a sense of belonging, in order to be motivated and to positively perform academically
