Abstract

This study investigated the influence of principals’ managerial practices on teachers’ job performance in public senior secondary schools in Yola Educational Zone, Adamawa state Nigeria. The study adopted survey research design and was guided by two objectives, two research questions and one null hypothesis. The total population of the study consisted of 2,066 teachers across sixty five (65) public senior Secondary Schools in Yola Educational Zone. Out of this population, three hundred and twenty/ two 322) teachers were selected for the study, using Krejcie and Morgan Sample size Determination table (1970). The instrument used for data collection was constructed questionnaire and developed. The instrument was validated by three experts. The reliability of the instrument was determined by Cronbach's Alpha which yielded the overall 0.914 reliability index. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer all the research questions while Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was employed in testing the null hypothesis at 0.05 level of Significance. The findings revealed a statistically significant and positive relationship between the principal’s managerial practices and teachers’ job performance. The adoption of key administrative strategies by principals is inconsistent, with motivation and supervision fairly applied, while areas like policy formulation and equitable delegation are poorly perceived. On basis of these findings, it is recommended that Principals adopt inclusive leadership styles that involve teachers in decision making processes and school planning to enhance cooperation and commitments.
