Comunicación digital y contenidos de violencia un estudio de caso
Abstract
This research analyses hate speech in Ecuadorian digital media using a mixed methodology that integrates surveys of university students, interviews with experts, and content analysis of interactions on YouTube. The findings reveal widespread recognition of the phenomenon among communication students, who identify psychological and technological factors that facilitate aggressive behaviour online. Expert perspectives provide legal frameworks that conceptualise hate as a crime that violates fundamental rights and communication analyses on the specificities of digital platforms. The analysis of video comments on Radio Pichincha Multimedia documents systematic patterns of dehumanisation, celebration of death, and collective disqualification with significant group validation. The results show a worrying normalisation of symbolic violence in polarised digital ecosystems, reflecting deep social tensions in the Ecuadorian context. The research identifies gaps between formal regulatory frameworks and effective communication practices, suggesting the need for comprehensive responses that combine regulation, critical digital education, and cultural transformations. Expressions of digital hate constitute a multidimensional phenomenon that requires coordinated approaches from multiple institutional actors to build virtual public spaces that are more respectful, inclusive, and conducive to constructive democratic deliberation.
