DIABETES MELLITUS AND TUBERCULOSIS: EPIDEMIOLOGY, PATHOGENESIS, AND CLINICAL ASPECTS OF COMORBIDITY
Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) and tuberculosis (TB) represent two global epidemics that increasingly coexist, posing significant challenges to healthcare systems worldwide. DM is an important risk factor for the development of TB, influencing its epidemiology, clinical manifestations, treatment response, and outcomes. This review summarizes current understanding of the bidirectional relationship between these diseases, highlighting key pathogenetic mechanisms, clinical features, and current recommendations for managing patients with this comorbidity.
