Integrating productivity and quality into the transport economics curriculum: A case study in northern Vietnam
Abstract
This paper presents the results of the scientific task (Code: 01/NSCL-2023) on developing an integrated training model for Productivity and Quality for students majoring in Transport Economics, aimed at addressing the practical "skills gap" in the Northern logistics region. Employing a mixed-methods research approach with a sample size of 541 subjects, the findings reveal a paradox: while 78.15% of learners are interested in P&Q, 27.78% have never been exposed to any related training activities. Students exhibit a severe deficiency in core practical skills, including on-site diagnosis (Gemba), Kaizen, and performance management (KPIs). Based on empirical data, the research achieved two breakthrough results: (1) The standardization of the course outline for "Productivity and Quality Management in Transport"; and (2) The compilation of a specialized textbook integrating "Twin Transition" trends (Digitalization and Green Transition) and ESG, closely linked with data from local enterprises. The study confirms the feasibility of this integrated model at the Vietnam Maritime University, creating a solid foundation for replication at other universities in the region and contributing to the implementation of the National Program 1322.
