An Assessment on Applications of Mathematics for Sustainable Computing of Green Environment
Abstract
In an era where environmental sustainability is a global challenge, so integration of Mathematics into sustainable practices is of utmost importance as it provides innovative solutions and fosters significant transformation. Mathematical computing and roles of mathematician and students for assessment of green environmental parameters play a great role in society. However, prior to analyzing the environmental complexities, researchers are emphasizing the impact of Mathematics on mathematicians and students. In this regard, some research studies have been conducted but, hardly any ample research has been done in Assam. In light of this context, we have decided to explore the attitude of students and teachers of Secondary schools towards comprehension and pedagogy of Mathematics and the aspects in which Mathematics is applied to sustainable computing of green environment in the district of Majuli, Assam, India. We opted descriptive cum normative survey method and cross sectional design. We observed that teachers showed average attitude towards pedagogy of Mathematics and students exhibited negative attitude for comprehension of Mathematics. Hardly 30 per cent of students and 45 percent of teachers possessed knowledge on Mathematical concepts relevant to sustainability. As per the overall assessment, it is inferred that by foster positive attitude, enhancing Mathematics curriculum, promoting practical applications and fostering collaboration, educational institutions need to encourage their students to use Mathematics in creating sustainable solutions. This approach will advance to achieve the key milestones under environmental sustainable development goals towards green computing.
