ANTIBACTERIAL POTENTIAL OF KAEMPFEROL AGAINST STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS: AN INTEGRATED IN VITRO AND IN SILICO STUDY
Abstract
Kaempferol is a naturally occurring flavonol, which is very common in fruits, vegetables and plants In current work, the MIC of kaempferol was 32 µg/mL and the MBC of kaempferol was 128 µg/mL. Moreover, kaempferol reacted with residues of dihydrofolate reductase that are vital in catalysis leading to a possible inhibition of DNA replication, which suggests that these may interfere with cell wall synthesis and virulence-related activities. The results justify its possible use as a natural antibacterial agent, particularly in the times of increased antibiotic resistance. Mechanistic studies, toxicity analysis, and in vivo efficacy models of therapeutic potential should be used in future work to ascertain the validity.
