Abstract

This paper explores the significant role of community resources utilized by the Mah Meri indigenous community in Pulau Carey, Malaysia, for sustainable tourism. The study was conducted at Kampung Sungai Bumbon, a prominent indigenous tourism destination. Through in-depth interviews (qualitative method), the researchers identified that natural tourism products—specifically wood carvings and weavings—are the primary attributes driving tourism development. While the community takes great pride in its diversified environment, the study reveals a critical concern: their culture and tourism sustainability are under threat due to the scarcity of natural resources. The findings aim to contribute to the literature on indigenous tourism and resource management.
