Abstract

Iraqi history witnessed a prominent cultural presence of Jews in its various cities, as they played an important role in various aspects of artistic, intellectual, and journalistic life. Their activity began to grow, in addition to their establishment of many schools, printing houses, and newspapers, which contributed to spreading reformist thought and expressing their opposition to the Zionist movement. At the same time, their artistic contribution in singing and novel writing played a role in enriching Iraq’s intellectual culture, and they formed one of the pillars of modernity in Iraq before their displacement in the forties and fifties following the political transformations adopted by the Iraqi government.
