Abstract

Sustainable development has become an essential paradigm in addressing the complex challenges of the modern world.Rapid industrialization, climate change, biodiversity loss, resource depletion, poverty, inequality, and public health crises have highlighted the urgent need for a development model that harmonizes environmental protection, economic progress, and social well-being.The foundation of this concept was firmly established by the World Commission on Environment and Development in its historic report Our Common Future, which defined sustainable development as meeting present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. This guiding principle remains central to contemporary global policy and research. In 2015, the global commitment to sustainability was strengthened with the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the United Nations. These 17 interconnected goals emphasize that sustainable progress must integrate scientific innovation with social responsibility.Achieving these goals demands collaboration across disciplines, particularly between science and social science, as environmental issues are deeply intertwined with economic systems, governance structures, cultural values, and human behavior. This book, Sustainable Development: A Comprehensive Multidisciplinary Research Analysis (Science and Social Science), aims to bridge the gap between these two critical domains.Scientific research provides empirical evidence, technological solutions, and environmental monitoring tools necessary to understand climate change, renewable energy systems, biodiversity conservation, sustainable agriculture, water resource management, and pollution control.Advances in engineering, environmental science, biotechnology, and data analytics contribute significantly to developing sustainable innovations. However, science alone cannot ensure sustainable transformation.Social sciences play an equally vital role by examining human behavior, public policy, governance mechanisms, economic models, social equity, education, and cultural dynamics.Issues such as poverty alleviation, gender equality, inclusive growth, ethical leadership, community participation, and institutional effectiveness determine the success of sustainability initiatives.Political science and public administration guide policy implementation; economics shapes resource allocation; sociology and anthropology explore community engagement; and education fosters awareness and responsible citizenship. The multidisciplinary perspective presented in this research recognizes that sustainable development is not a singular scientific challenge nor merely a social agenda-it is a systemic transformation requiring integrated solutions. For example, transitioning to renewable energy technologies involves not only scientific innovation but also financial feasibility, policy incentives, social acceptance, and behavioral change.Similarly, sustainable urban development requires environmental planning, infrastructure engineering, economic investment, and inclusive governance. This volume compiles theoretical insights, empirical studies, case analyses, and policy evaluations from both scientific and social science disciplines. It seeks to promote interdisciplinary dialogue and encourage collaborative research that addresses sustainability challenges in a holistic manner.By combining quantitative analysis with qualitative understanding, the book provides a balanced and comprehensive exploration of sustainable development strategies.
