Abstract

Despite the continuous advancement of technology and globalization, a decline in the active use of the Filipino language in schools has been observed. This study aimed to develop and test the effectiveness of the Support, Action, and Excellence intervention in enhancing the speaking skills of Senior High School students. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with an experimental group and a control group from a private school in Davao City.A researcher-made speaking assessment instrument was administered as both pre-test and post-test, and the data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and t-test.Results revealed that prior to the intervention, there was no significant difference between the two groups, indicating comparable baseline speaking proficiency. After the intervention, a significant difference was found in the post-test scores between the experimental and control groups. The experimental group demonstrated a significant improvement from pre-test to post-test, whereas no significant change was observed in the control group Furthermore, the experimental group obtained a higher mean gain score compared to the control group, with a significant difference.Overall, the findings confirm that the Support, Action, and Excellence intervention is effective in improving the Filipino speaking skills of Senior High School students.
