Abstract

Science communication constitutes an institutional mechanism that strengthens the social accountability of Haitian universities to a society still largely under-informed about knowledge-related issues. In a context marked by the adoption of the decrees of June 30, 2020, on the organization of higher education and the creation of the National Agency for Higher Education and Scientific Research (ANESRS), institutionalizing public science communication practices has become imperative. This article proposes a systematic literature review on science popularization, knowledge mediation, the role of the mother tongue in the dissemination of scientific culture, and the link between science communication and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Haiti. Drawing on comparative experiences from France, Senegal, Quebec, and Latin America, the authors propose concrete incentive and evaluation mechanisms enabling ANESRS to integrate science popularization into its regulatory criteria for higher education institutions and the assessment of teacher-researchers. Ultimately, the article advocates for an open, accessible, and engaged science in the service of sustainable development in Haiti. Keywords: Science popularization, Knowledge mediation, Mother tongue, Scientific culture, ANESRS, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
