Abstract

Abstract Gastric volvulus, which is defined as an abnormal rotation of the stomach of more than 1800, is said to be a rare surgical emergency in childhood. Many of the cases reported in the world literature have been the acute and secondary type with predisposing factors. The acute type is potentially lethal if not properly managed. W e describe an acute gastric volvulus in a 4-year-old child, the primary type, without any predisposing factor , which was so dif ficult to diagnose that the boy was first treated for malaria, sepsis and meningitis before the right diagnosis was finally made.
