The Presentation of PISA 2022 Results in the Greek Media: Comparative Analysis
Abstract
This study examines the way in which the Greek online press presents and negotiates the results of the PISA 2022 assessment, through content analysis of 177 publications covering the period from May 2023 to July 2024. The findings demonstrate that the coverage obeys the principles of the “Media Logic”, with dominant characteristics being the emphasis on national rankings, the adoption of negative framing, and the fact-centered approach. The public debate is shaped almost exclusively by media professionals, with minimal participation from the academic and educational community. A central finding is the almost complete absence of a critical attitude towards PISA itself. In contrast to international trends, the connection of the results with the country’s economic competitiveness is almost absent. In conclusion, the dialogue is considered limited and superficial, preventing the formation of a comprehensive educational policy.
