The Musical Identity of Adolescents and the Influence of the Trap Music Genre
Abstract
This quantitative research examines the musical identity of high school students and its role in their daily lives, with a focus on the influence of the trap music genre. The aim of the study is to document musical preferences, understand the factors influencing the formation of musical identity, and explore the attitudes of adolescents towards the lyrics and cultural messages of trap music. Data collection was carried out through a closed-type questionnaire, which was distributed electronically to a sample of 120 students. The analysis of the responses was based on descriptive statistics. The findings show that music is a key means of emotional expression and social identification for adolescents, while the trap genre, despite the controversy often caused by its content, attracts significant interest. The results highlight the need to enhance the critical thinking of young people towards the standards and values promoted through contemporary music.
