Abstract

National and international artists from different periods of the development of painting in Chile, with their diverse styles, have depicted children and young people in different settings and scenes in paintings and murals, leaving true historical testimony. Research related to the artworks and the lives of their creators allows us to discover documents, anecdotes, legends, dramas, and striking events beyond the canvas or the wall, and at the same time, to understand the prevailing times at the time of their execution. For this publication, ten representative works from some chapters of the book have been selected, along with the biographies of their authors and other new elements. The objective of this article is to contribute to culture and the dissemination of pictorial art, as well as to highlight the creativity of artists who have depicted childhood, often invisible or absent, in its diverse expressions of fun and tenderness, but also of pain and suffering.
