Intervenções de enfermagem na prevenção de quedas em instituições de longa permanência para idosos: uma revisão integrativa da literatura
Abstract
Population aging has increased the demand for long-term care and highlighted the need for strategies aimed at the safety of institutionalized older adults. This study aimed to analyze the main nursing interventions focused on fall prevention among older adults living in Long-Term Care Institutions, based on recent scientific literature and institutional health documents. This is an integrative literature review with a qualitative approach, conducted through systematic searches in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Scientific Electronic Library Online, and Virtual Health Library databases, using descriptors related to fall prevention, nursing, and elderly care. Studies published between 2024 and 2026, as well as national and international institutional documents, were included. The findings showed that interventions such as medication review, systematic fall risk assessment, physical exercise programs, professional training, health education, and psychosocial strategies contribute to reducing fall-related adverse events. However, the effectiveness of these interventions depends on integrated approaches and overcoming organizational and structural barriers that limit their implementation in healthcare services. It is concluded that fall prevention in institutionalized older adults requires multidimensional nursing actions associated with qualified care and evidence-based practice.
