Abstract

Objective: To analyze the mental health of healthcare professionals during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology: This is a systematic literature review. Thirteen studies were selected from 2,919 articles found in the SCIELO, PUBMED, LILACS, and MEDLINE databases. Rigorous selection of inclusion and exclusion criteria, and Bardin's content analysis were applied to interpret the qualitative data. Results: The articles were organized to systematize knowledge about the effects of the pandemic on the mental health of these professionals. After careful analysis of the studies, a high prevalence of mental disorders was found among healthcare professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially among women, young people, those with lower education levels, and those with chronic diseases. Exposure to the frontline influences vulnerability and persistent emotional fatigue after returning to work. Conclusion: There is an urgent need for psychological interventions, emotional support, and institutional policies to promote mental health and ensure the professional sustainability of these workers.
