Abstract

This study aims to analyze the training and qualifications of the Military Police for responding to incidents involving individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), identifying, possibilities, and proposals for continuous improvement. Within this framework, it provides a conceptual overview of the disorder, highlighting its characteristics and the diversity of ASD, while also emphasizing the neurodiversity perspective and the need for personalized approaches. Furthermore, it examines police assistance to individuals in vulnerable situations, Brazilian legislation, and applicable international protocols, such as inclusion laws, proportional use of force, and human rights, presenting an overview of police training in Brazil. It also highlights some experiences of the Paraná Military Police, including Instruction Note No. 001/2022 and specific training initiatives, such as awareness campaigns and seminars. Finally, it proposes ongoing training structured around thematic modules, active methodologies, inter-institutional integration, the use of distance learning, and ongoing monitoring and evaluation, focusing on adapted communication, de-escalation techniques, and legislative knowledge.
