BENEFÍCIOS DO USO DA OXIGENOTERAPIA HIPERBÁRICA EM PACIENTES PÓS CIRÚRGICOS: UMA REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA
Abstract
Introduction: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a therapeutic modality that uses pure oxygen in controlled environments with pressures higher than atmospheric pressure. It’s an adjuvant therapeutic approach to accelerate tissue healing, especially in high-risk patients, such as those with diabetes, vascular diseases, or those undergoing complex surgical procedures. Objective: To identify the benefits of using HBOT as an adjuvant therapy in clinical conditions with an increased risk of tissue ischemia or healing failures in post-surgical patients. Materials and methods: This is a qualitative research study, conducted through an integrative literature review. Articles were selected from the PubMed, Cochrane, VHL (Virtual Health Library), and LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature) databases. Results: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) shows beneficial therapeutic effects in various clinical and surgical contexts. Conclusion: It is noted that there is a need for more publications of scientific studies regarding the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in recovery and prevention of complications in postoperative patients. Furthermore, it is observed that there are still gaps concerning the standardization of protocols related to the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy as a therapeutic modality.
