Abstract

Insomnia is one of the most prevalent sleep disorders in Primary Health Care (PHC), especially when associated with common mental disorders such as depression and anxiety. The coexistence of these conditions represents a frequent challenge in clinical practice, as it negatively impacts quality of life, daytime functionality, and individuals’ productivity, in addition to increasing demand for health services. This is an integrative literature review aimed at analyzing the scientific evidence regarding the management of insomnia associated with depression and anxiety in the PHC context. The search was conducted in the PubMed, SciELO, LILACS, and Virtual Health Library databases, covering studies published over the last ten years. The results indicate the predominance of pharmacological treatment in clinical practice, although non-pharmacological interventions, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia, health education of sleep, show better outcomes in the medium and long term. It is concluded that the management of insomnia should prioritize comprehensive, person-centered approaches, aligned with the principles of Family and Community Medicine and the continuity of care.
