A TERAPIA COGNITIVA COMPORTAMENTAL NOS CUIDADOS PALIATIVOS: UMA REVISÃO NARRATIVA
Abstract
The present study aimed to analyze the relevance of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) within the context of palliative care, seeking to improve the quality of life for patients with serious or terminal illnesses through the management of physical, emotional, and social symptoms. This narrative review was based on a careful selection of scientific articles and specialized books. The search methodology included studies published between 2010 and 2024, utilizing the descriptors: “palliative care,” Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy”, and “quality of life.” The bibliographic analysis prioritized interventions that demonstrate effectiveness in reducing negative clinical outcomes, such as anxiety, depression, and stress, which are prevalent emotional manifestations in this population, including the mental health care of family members. The analysis results indicated that Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an effective psychotherapeutic tool in the palliative context. Its application assists in emotional regulation and adaptation to the health condition, mainly through the cognitive restructuring of dysfunctional thoughts. In this way, CBT promotes the development of acceptance and resilience in patients. The techniques most frequently reported in the literature for this purpose include psychoeducation, cognitive restructuring, and mindfulness, all of which are adapted to accommodate the physical limitations inherent to the patients’ condition.
